The Catskills, buried in ice during the Pleistoscene glaciation, are an extension of the Allegheny Plateau. Bedrock consists of sandstone, conglomerate and shale. Fossils, except for fossil wood. The Catskill division of rocks has but few minerals in it. Small quantities of iron, copper, lead, and zinc are extensively found in a particular kind or layer of rock, in different parts of Greene, Ulster, Sullivan, and Delaware counties, but nowhere in veins of more than eighteen inches thick.
